Nawal Houghton, divorce coach, qualified solicitor, accredited mediator,

The divorce coach you need when facing a narcissist or narcissistic behaviour.

Nawal is a lawyer, a mediator, and a divorcee. When she experienced leaving her narcissistic ex, Google search couldn't provide her with the necessary information to deal with her 'tricky divorce' and she was forced to learn as she experienced the painful complex process. Nawal also learnt that post-divorce does not mean the end of the narcissist and their bad behaviour. But this personal experience is what shaped Nawal into the formidable divorce coach she is today, utilising her triage of skills has made her a valuable resource of support to her clients, both men and women.

Yes, the actual number of actual diagnosed narcissists are small, but the traits and behaviours beyond being an asshole exist.

When Covid shut down the UK in 2020, Nawal took advantage of her spare time to post about narcissists on social media. Overnight her IG account blew up with followers and likes but importantly, the endless 'thank you's' received that she felt were priceless.

The satisfaction of helping others feel acknowledged and less alone encouraged her to keep working throughout lockdown helping people trapped in these dysfunctional relationships. Zoom gave the ideal opportunity to hold meetings with clients who could find an excuse to sit in their car or walk outside where it was safer. Where permitted she would go for walks. It became obvious this was her space, and she quit her job to become Your Divorce Coach.

It's OK to be scared. It can happen to anybody.

Nawal learnt after her divorce that healing is not linear, and divorcing a narcissist can lead to horrendous controlling behaviour that can wear you down over time.

They don't let up.

No narcissist is the same, each with nuances that she has to profile in order to prepare her client for what's next. We talk about men vs women's narcissistic traits, and she has found women to be more manipulative and insidious in nature. Nawal is all about strategy and forward planning, and her profiling skills help her decide what is relevant to you for now. That may mean helping you instruct your lawyer, or if you are self representing, how to prepare for what they will throw at you in court. She can help you with the tricky side of co-parenting with invaluable advice on how to respond to emails and texts. A skill we could all use.

Nawal is efficient in the way her clients can reach out to her or to learn. She has a monthly membership that is filled with insightful articles relevant to this space, SOS calls, and another system where you pay in advance and you get to decide how to use your credit as you wish- that could be an email, a voice note, a call, or a message. This system allows her to help clients in different time zones and importantly end her work day to spend time with family. Sometimes, people find that once the message has been sent, they don't need the call back. Sending the message can be enough to offload the chaos at the time.

Abuse is Universal!

Wherever you are and whatever stage of divorce you are in, Nawal assures me you aren't alone. Just reach out. You may not be ready to make a decision today, and that is ok, but you can and should plan for your future exit. Don't judge yourself or others going through this. Abuse is universal and has no set demographic, what remains constant is that it is exceptionally hard to leave, takes time and plenty of support to get through it.
